The training is specifically designed for Childminders, to raise awareness of the use and content of the WellComm Speech and Language Toolkit. The toolkit is designed to develop practitioners' skills and confidence in supporting children under 5 years who are at risk of developing speech, language and communication difficulties.
During the training, we talk about when to use the WellComm Toolkit, in line with the Integrated Early Years Communication and Language Pathway. The training will cover the content of the toolkit, including the resources that it contains, the assessment procedure and use of the intervention resources.
Please allow one hour to complete this training.
WellComm Toolkit
Childminders can access a copy of the WellComm Toolkit via their local Bolton Council Library. You will not require a copy for this e-learning course.
What will I learn?
Upon completion, you will be familiar with the content of the WellComm Toolkit and know when and how to access support for children experiencing speech, language and communications difficulties. Participants will also gain an understanding of how to utilise the intervention resources from 'The Big Book of Ideas'.
Resources
The 'WellComm Speech and Language Toolkit' resource is a comprehensive assessment and intervention toolkit, which includes:
- Screening Tool - including 'Handbook' and 'The Little Book of Rules', enabling early identification of areas of concern within language, communication and interaction development; and
- Intervention Resource - including 'The Big Book of Ideas', 'The Picture Book' and 'The Support Language at Home CD'. These resources offer a range of stimulating, fun and play based activities designed to address children's language needs.

Who is this workshop for?
This E-learning course is aimed at Childminders within the Bolton borough working with children aged 6 months to 6 years to support their families.
This course is fully funded for the Bolton early years provider only.
