Lorna Llewellyn


Lorna has been a Speech and Language Therapist in Bolton for over 20 years. She works with children and families, providing intervention for those with identified speech and language communication needs, as well as advice and support within universal services promoting communication for all children.

Lorna has been developing the preventative role of speech and language therapy (SLT) within the multi-agency arena of children's centres since the start of Sure Start Local Programmes. She is passionate about children being given the best opportunities for communication, whether this is within the home or early education setting. Lorna enjoys working directly with children and parents in groups, building easy rapport and sharing strategies and activities parents can use with children at home. She enjoys seeing the growth in confidence of parents, as well as the development of communication skills in the children.

Lorna has provided training for both parents and professionals nationally and locally for over 15 years. She is a licensed Elklan tutor and has run termly courses for the past 10 years. She has delivered 'Train the Trainer' courses for the Hanen Centre across the UK.

Within her work for the Early Years team (now known as the Start Well Service), she has developed and delivered a range of training packages and tools that promote knowledge around the typical development of communication skills, advice and strategies, including the Communication and Language Journey, Nursery Narrative programme and the WellComm toolkit.

Lorna has a BSc (tech. hons) , MSc and adult teaching qualification, giving her a sound theoretical background to support her work in this fascinating and vital area of wellbeing for our children.
