Autumn Assessment Discussion: Communication, Language and Reading Focus

Assessment discussions, hosted by early years leads from schools and PVI settings in each cluster will be organising meetings for nursery and reception practitioners in the locality. It is hoped this will help practitioners to have confidence in their practice and provide an opportunity to strengthen links between early years professionals. Themes will be fed back centrally and shared across all Bolton settings.

Who are the meetings for?

Meetings are for practitioners working with 3, 4, and 5-year-olds from schools and PVI settings.

The meetings focus on:

We will look at 'Communication and Language' and 'Reading' and have a professional discussion with other practitioners working with the same age range of children about observations, assessments, and practice, supported by the non-statutory guidance documents 'Development Matters' and 'Birth to Five Matters'.

What do I bring?

You don’t need to bring any evidence or books, just come prepared to talk about 2 children (anonymised), one working at age related expectations and one who is not yet working at age related in these areas.

How do I book?

Please email the office of the host school to let them know you will be attending. (If you cannot attend your own meeting but you can attend an alternative date, please get in touch with that school office to let them know you would like to attend that meeting.) The host schools and lead PVI representatives from the Early Education Improvement group will be reaching out to local providers so you may get a phone call or email inviting you.
