Summary During our conference in March 2024, storyteller Sally Tonge, creator of Story Sticks will share ideas and technique around improvising and harvesting ideas to make meaning. Participants will explore what is possible with Story Sticks and will take part in: a warming up exercises; sharing nursery rhymes; using sticks to beat time and play actions; story creation, and how to finish a Storytime session. Join this workshop to find out how Story Sticks capture visual and signed, playful and kinaesthetic language in children. 
Description Sally Tonge is popular Shropshire based storyteller, musician and community artist. She works across the UK and beyond with listeners of all ages.

She tells stories combined with music, and is especially skilled at working with young children, children with special and additional needs and people living with dementia and memory impairment.

For nearly 30 years, Sal has worked as a a professional arts developer, taking creativity into schools and libraries, prisons and pubs, shopping centres and country parks, hospices and housing schemes, arts venues and even car parks.

She is currently Storyteller in Residence in 2 special schools in the West Midlands as well as a former Storyteller and Musician in Residence for Early Years settings throughout Shropshire. She has worked with the cabaret show Three Men in a Bow Tie for over 5 years and is currently touring Sheep Tales to village halls nationally. She has acted in Lovelee productions of Silhouette and Shakespeare’s Will. She sings and plays guitar as one half of duo DayLevel and is a regular touring artist for Music in Hospitals.

The story sticks are made from beautifully machined and specially shaped wooden dowel finished in a wax oil tested to EN71 Safety Test suitable for use on children’s toys. There will be a chance to order a sack of sticks for delivery to your setting.
