Unlock the secrets to fostering young children’s reading development with this dynamic e-learning course, based on the live session by The Learning Lady.
This course creatively explores how every child communication resources and the Start Well Stories can be used to develop two crucial aspects of early reading development: Word recognition and language comprehension for children aged 3-4 years old.
What will I learn?
Part 1 Word Recognition
Discover techniques for promoting pre-phonics and early language development:
- Where does pre-phonic development start?
- How does it relate to communication and language development?
- Developing essential listening and attention skills using stories and songs
- Looking out for developmental milestones
- Post session tasks included
Part 2 Language Comprehension
Explore methods for enriching children’s vocabulary and comprehension:
- How opening our eyes, switching on our brains, and moving our bodies prepares our youngest children for reading
- Using everyday provision to activate essential visual discrimination and vocabulary
- More joining in stories and songs to prepare our brains and move our bodies
- Weaving words into our provision to build better vocabularies
- Reflection and planning for next steps

Costs
Fully funded (free) for Bolton early years providers only.
£36 per person for all other authority practitioners.
(Charges will become effective on the date when we issue the booking confirmation and welcome email. All requests to withdraw must be received in writing to StartWellBookings@bolton.gov.uk with the date accepted as the date of the email).
Who is this course for?
This e-learning course is aimed at all Bolton PVI Daycare and School group providers of the EYFS, including Childminders.
It is also suitable for anyone passionate about nurturing a love of reading in children as a refresher of the live session or for initial professional development.
Booking Arrangements
Please complete the booking online section above.
If you are booking on behalf of other members of staff, you must provide individual names and email addresses for each person in the 'Additional Information' section of the booking form to complete registration. Generic email addresses such as manager@, office@ or email addresses in the name of the nursery not the individual will not be accepted.
When registration is complete, a welcome email will be issued and you can then access the E-learning platform here.

Course Delivery
Once enrolled, you can complete this E-learning course anytime, at your own pace.
Please note: to get the most out of this training, delegates will need to allocate at least 4 hour to complete the course. You will be able to stop, start and revisit the modules as and when needed.
