Teacher Profile

EYCLDS - Kathryn Barter

SPEECH AND LANGUAGE THERAPIST

Kathryn is a Speech and Language Therapist who has worked for the Bolton Start Well Early Years Communication and Language Development Service since May 2019. Prior to this, Kathryn trained as a musical theatre performer and appeared in numerous family and children’s shows across the country, as well as running performing workshops for Early Years and Key Stage One children. This experience made Kathryn passionately believe that all children should have the opportunity to be exposed to theatre and performing arts to help enrich their learning.

Kathryn is keen to help educate parents and practitioners of the importance of early intervention and to empower parents to feel confident to support their child’s communication and language development at home. Kathryn works directly with children, families and early years practitioners to support identified communication and language needs through one to one assessment, language groups and online training, in addition to providing advice and support for all children within a universal setting. Kathryn is a qualified Elklan tutor and is Solihull trained.

Kathryn studied Bsc (Hons) in Speech Pathology and Therapy at the Manchester Metropolitan University meaning she has the relevant theoretical background and practical knowledge to effectively support children, and those working with children, with their communication and language development.
