Boost Early Literacy Skills with FREE ‘Making it REAL’ Training in Bolton

Practitioners across Bolton are invited to take part in an exciting, fully funded training programme designed to transform early literacy outcomes for young children and families.

Raising Early Achievement in Literacy (REAL) Making it REAL is a nationally recognised programme, recommended by the Department for Education, that helps boost children’s communication, language, and early literacy through meaningful home learning experiences.

Course details

  • Dates: Wednesday 8 July 2026 and Thursday 9 July 2026
  • Time: 9:30am – 4:00pm (both days)
  • Venue: Harvey Family Hub, Shaw Street, Bolton, BL3 6HU
  • Cost: Free for Bolton practitioners (fully funded)

Participants must attend both full training days. The programme also includes follow-up network sessions to support ongoing learning and practice.

What to expect

This engaging programme equips practitioners with practical tools to:

  • Support children’s early communication and literacy development
  • Strengthen the home learning environment
  • Build confidence when working with families
  • Deliver fun, evidence-based literacy activities through the ORIM framework

Following the training, settings will work directly with families through home visits and literacy-focused activities, creating lasting impact over approximately three terms (includes a termly group network meeting).

Who should attend?

This training is ideal for early years practitioners working with children aged 2, 3 and 4 years old and their families, particularly those supporting the EYFS and Bolton’s Best Start in Life priorities in Schools and Daycare settings.
