2-3 year old flu vaccination programme in Greater Manchester

A message for early years providers in Bolton from the Greater Manchester Screening and Immunisation Team.

As we head into flu season, it's more important than ever to help protect our children and those around them.

Flu vaccination is offered to all children aged 2 and 3 years of age.

By vaccinating eligible children, we not only safeguard their health but also help reduce the spread of illness in our wider community protecting those most vulnerable and leading to fewer nursery absences, GP visits, and hospital admissions.

The flu vaccine for 2 and 3 years olds is a nasal spray, it is safe and well-tolerated, with most side effects being mild and short-lived. Children and infants do not usually need to be kept away from their childcare setting after receiving a vaccination. There is also an injectable vaccine available for those who object to the trace porcine gelatine elements in the nasal spray.

Appointments are available through GP practice or at some local community pharmacies. We kindly ask for your support in promoting the childhood flu vaccination programme this season.
