Course description

Participants will discover and explore the ELKLAN speech and language teaching methods and activities used to support and engage children. The course will provide you with:

• A wealth of information and opportunity to share experiences with other practitioners working with children of the same age.
• Practical advice and strategies to support the children, parents, and families with whom you work with.
• Language Builders for 3-5s, a practical resource containing an abundance of tips, ideas, and strategies.
• Registration with OCN London to enable you to achieve accreditation at level 2 or 3 (accredited courses only).

Who is this course for?

This course is part-funded for settings and schools who:

• Have a significant number of children in receipt of Early Years Pupil Premium.
• Are based in an area of deprivation.

Places will be confirmed by Start Well and a Training Agreement shared with the setting or schools, and delegates as soon as possible.

Course commitment

Homework tasks and a Learning Log to be completed in-between sessions.

Learners should allow at least 1.5 hours per task for the reflective writing and additional time for planning and carrying out the activity. 

Three weeks after the end of the course, participants must submit a complete portfolio which includes the Learning Log tasks submitted, marked and passed at either level. 

Participants must attend all 10 sessions.

Support to achieve this accreditation will be given by the course tutor.

Price

£77.50 per person.

The price includes all 10 sessions,Speech and Language 3-5s handbook, accreditation fee, and certificate.

Course dates and venue

All sessions take place during the Bolton school term on Thursdays at Harvey Start Well Centre, Shaw Street, BL3 6HU. 

The course will not take place during the October half-term (30th October 2025). 

Please check all the dates below to ensure you are able to attend all sessions. Missed sessions may be delivered at an additional charge.

Commitments and Cancellations

All requests for cancellations must be sent in writing to: StartWellBookings@bolton.gov.uk. Charges will become effective on the date when written confirmation is received.

As low numbers can affect the viability of a course, we have to apply a charge if notice is not received in good time. The appropriate cancellation charge will apply based on the cost of your booking, as shown below:
