Course Description

This E-Learning package is available upon request to access any time.

The package includes:
1. Number Journey module. Updated August 2022
2. Understanding Counting and Cardinality module.
3. Subitising module.
4. Spatial Awareness module.

The Number Journey is part of the essential Every Child Training resources and is designed to support early years practitioners to use the Number Journey.  The Understanding Counting and Cardinality, Subitising and Spatial Awareness modules are designed to support early years practitioners to implement the mathmatics educational programme of the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage (September 2021).  

These modules will help you support children to develop a firm foundation in early mathematical skills, knowledge and understanding by providing lots of practical ideas and activities to support you improve teaching and learning of number in the EYFS.

Please note: to get the most out of this training delegates will need to allocate the equivalent of 1 full day to complete all modules.  However, we would not recommend you complete all four modules at one time.  You will be able to stop, start and revisit the modules as and when needed.

All of the resources you will need to complete this package of training are available to download via the e-learning platform.

What will I learn?

By completing this Teaching Maths in the Early Years: E-Learning Package, you will:

  • Explore the Number Journey resource and find out more about developing children's number sense;
  • Know how children develop mathematics understanding;
  • Be more effective in questioning, analysing, and providing activities that further children’s mathematical development;  
  • Look at how you can support the development of subitising in young children with guided tasks and thoughtful planning of teaching moments;  
  • Learn more about research into spatial awareness and spatial reasoning skills and what you can do to enhance your provision to support this.

Costs

Fully funded (free) for Bolton early years providers only. 

£36 per person for all other authority practitioners.
(Charges will become effective on the date when we issue the booking confirmation and welcome email.  All requests to withdraw must be received in writing to StartWellBookings@bolton.gov.uk with the date accepted as the date of the email).

Who is this course for?

This course is aimed at all practitioners working in an early years setting with children from birth to five.

Booking Arrangements

Please complete the booking online section above. 

If you are booking on behalf of other members of staff, you must provide individual names and email addresses for each person in the 'Additional Information' section of the booking form to complete registration.  Generic email addresses such as manager@, office@ or email addresses in the name of the nursery not the individual will not be accepted.

When registration is complete, a welcome email(s) will be issued and you can then access the E-learning platform here.

If you already have access to the E-learning platform, please email StartWellBookings@bolton.gov.uk to have this course added to your training record.
