Course Description
Aided Language Stimulation is an alternative communication system, which can support children with severe communication difficulties. This workshop will give an overview of this system. It will offer examples of how and where communication boards can be used within a childcare setting and provide details of how resources can be sourced and produced.
What will I learn?
This workshop will explain what Aided Language Stimulation is and how it can support children with severe communication difficulties. You will be able to trial a selection of Communication Boards and discuss the many ways in which they could be used in different settings to support communication.
By the end of the workshop, you will:
- Know how to use Aided Language Stimulation in your setting; and
- Know where to source resources to support communication in your setting.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is aimed at practitioners working with children aged 2-5 years and their families. It is suitable for Managers, EYFS Leads, SENCos, Room Leaders and all Early Years Practitioners.

Commitments and Cancellations
In order to maintain best value, we need to run this course on a maximum occupancy basis. If your place is confirmed but you are unable to attend, please send an alternative representative or cancel your place in writing by e-mailing: StartWellBookings@bolton.gov.uk with a minimum of 24 hours' notice.
An administration fee of *£25 per person will be charged for the non-attendance of any individual following an online or confirmed telephone booking. These fees will be waived if you send a replacement attendee from your setting to take up your place.
Bolton Start Well operates on a not-for-profit basis. Our focus is to achieve positive meaningful outcomes. Any surplus income is reinvested to maintain and improve the quality of our services and customer care.
*With effect from January 2026, this will increase to £50 per person.
