The Critical Incident Support Service (CISS) has written guidance to support early years settings and child minders in the event of their community suffering a bereavement.

The coronavirus is affecting all communities and the Critical Incident Support Service (CISS) has written guidance to support early years settings and child minders in the event of their community suffering a bereavement (e.g. the death of a child’s relative, a child or member of staff). There is a checklist provided to help settings to plan and consider actions in the event of a bereavement.

Within the guidance, it includes:

  • Advice for parents / carers: when talking to children about someone who has died.
  • Activities for children
  • Websites and resources.

These can be given to parents / carers as handouts as required.

There is also the attachment ‘Taking care of yourself after hearing news’ which can be given to staff.
