Take up of funded childcare for two year olds

Details of information sent to families in Bolton.

As part of a national campaign, we have been piloting a scheme in Bolton to try and increase the take up of the 2 year old childcare funded entitlement.

Working with NESTA and the Behavioural Insights Team, we have sent out one of two different letters to parents entitled to Universal Credit and hence most likely to qualify for a funded 2 year-old place, in place of our usual marketing postcards. The list has been provided by the DWP. The two letters are shown for reference.

Letter 1

Letter 2

We are closely monitoring the take up of places as a result of these letters and this data will drive how we approach parents going forward.

If you have any parents who present these letters to you in your setting, you should:

  1. Check that they have visited the Citizens Portal to check their eligibility if you are unable to do a check for them. The letters do not guarantee a funded place.
  2. If they have been through the Citizens Portal and can show their child is eligible, and you are unable to offer a place with you, please ask them to visit https://www.mylifeinbolton.org.uk/ to search for a list of providers in their area.

If they have searched on My Life in Bolton and are still unable to find a place for their child, they can email Families Information Service on families@bolton.gov.uk
