Measles cases across Greater Manchester and Bolton

Measles cases across Greater Manchester and Bolton

Measles cases across Bolton and Greater Manchester; message from the Community Infection Prevention & Control Team.

As you are probably aware, there has been a rise in cases of measles across Greater Manchester.

So far this year, there have been 47 confirmed, and a further 23 probable cases – 5 confirmed cases have been identified in Bolton.

The main messages from Public Health England (PHE) at this time are:

  1. To encourage uptake of the 2 doses of the MMR vaccination in children and adults,
  2. To ask all individuals working in health & social care, education and childcare to check their own MMR status to ensure up to date and fully protected. They can do this by contacting their GP, or occupational health department.
  3. To ensure parents/carers who think their child may have measles call ahead rather than take them to the GP practice, A & E or OOH service.

Please find posters here and here for display and potential discussion with parents/carers.

Many thanks for your support.
